Project ELFF
· History of Project ELFF (Everyone Loves a Firefighter)
· The program was started in 1986 by City of The Dalles Fire Department Volunteers, Scott Mengis and Diana Renard. Original program sponsors were the fire department, the Oregon National Guard, Salvation Army, and Sprint United Telephone.
· The program has changed in many ways over the years, but the mission has stayed the same. Collect and provide food for those in need.
· Donation barrels are currently in location and our local grocery stores, Fred Meyer, Safeway and the Grocery Outlet. This program is very thankful for their support in community giving.
· Drop off of non-perishable food can also be made at the Fire Station #1 at 1400 W 8th ST and the Fire Station #2 at 525 Wasco Drive.
· This year, Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue, along with the Salvation Army and St. Vincent DePaul, are continuing the tradition of collecting food items to support the food pantry program.
Firefighters will be at the following locations to say thank you to our community and to collect food items in person
- Fred Meyer on December 2nd from 10am – 2pm
- Grocery Outlet on December 3rd from 1pm – 4 pm
- Safeway on December 4th from 12pm –4 pm
· The Dalles and community surrounding the city step up, time and time again to assist those in need. It is truly remarkable how this community responds when called upon.
